First Communion Friends

The First Communion Friends initiative was launched in January 2008. We thought that it would be a great experience for First Communicants in Ireland to learn about their brothers and sisters in mission countries who were also preparing for the sacrament. Each year we focus on a boy or girl and tell you a little bit about how they prepared, what their big day was like, what clothes they wore and how they felt about receiving First Communion. We prepare a small Liturgy for the classroom each February which can be used at anytime during the count-down to the big day. Teachers are encouraged discuss the different ways of celebrating this big day. We will have photographs and stories of First Communicants from our children's projects on our website soon. We would love to have some input from our Irish First Communicants.

Please send us your photographs and stories about how you celebrated and what receiving this sacrament means to you.
