Blankets for Nsambya Babies Home, Kampala, Uganda
The children from Rosemount National School, Moate, Co. Westmeath knitted 16 baby blankets for abandoned babies in Uganda. Jackie Pallas, the National Secretary for Missionary Children visited them recently to collect the blankets and to thank everyone involved. The children told her the following story:
Last October, 2nd and 3rd classes began knitting. Soon we had about 100 squares knit and we were all very good at knitting. We were able to cast off and on too! Then our teacher Ms. Mary Fleming rang Jackie and asked if we could knit blankets for Children Helping Children. Jackie was delighted with our idea and suggested we knit for a children's orphanage in Uganda that she had visited on one of her mission trips. Our Mammies, Grannies, Aunties, friends and other people all gave us a helping hand by donating wool and knitting squares for us. A ladies club in Streamstown gave us enough squares to make on of our blankets. By Christmas we had 1,482 squares, enough to make 16 blankets. We hope the children in the orphanage enjoy our blankets as much as we enjoyed making them. It was a real fun experience and we would like to say a big 'Thank You' to everyone who helped us in any way.
We would like to also say a big 'THANK YOU' to the staff of Rosemount National School, the parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and significant others who participated in this fantastic event. But mostly we want to say; Well Done, Boys and Girls of Rosemount National School, you're GREAT!
