Catechists of Enugu

Funds raised in Ireland assisted the training and maintenance of 820 catechists within Enugu State, Nigeria. After two years of training at the catechetical institute the catechists are commissioned at a special mass and then posted to various parishes within the Diocese.

The catechists work together with the priests and religious to minister the parishioners and carry out the duties of the local Church. Bishop Anthony Okokwo Gbuji of Enugu said:

"The catechists render invaluable service to the Church particularly at grass root level and in primary evangelization. Without Irish support we would have been unable to train these faithful men and women."
