Sierra Leone

Recently, the Vatican Information Service announced that Pope Benedict XVI had erected the new Roman Catholic Diocese of Bo, Sierra Leone, by dividing the current archdiocese of Freetown and Bo, making it a suffragan of the metropolitan church of Freetown. He appointed Father Charles Allieu Matthew Campbell, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Freetown and Bo, as first bishop of the new diocese. The Archdiocese of Freetown remains to be ministered by Bishop Edward Tamba Charles. The following information relates to the Archdiocese of Freetown & Bo as it was in 2010.

The Diocese of Freetown and Bo

In the Archdiocese of Freetown and Bo, Sierra Leone, the money raised for this project was used for the ongoing training, formation and development of the catechists in the diocese; the construction of three churches and the renovation of another. Funds have also been given to priests in poor parishes as a means of support for the diocese. Archbishop Edward Tamba Charles has written to express his gratitude, saying:

"We are very grateful to the donors and we pray for God's blessing on them and their families."
