St Peter Apostle

The Society of St. Peter Apostle provides the financial and spiritual support needed by Young Churches to train their own priests, brothers and sisters.

When the Society was established in 1889 it supported 2,700 seminarians in their journey of faith. The Society has continued to grow each year and in 2008/2009, the Society supported 26,792 young priests in training in mission lands.

In 2008 Irish people contributed €926,110 to the work of the Society of St. Peter Apostle. One example of the impact of these contributions can be seen at Lieven's Apostolic School Minor Seminary which has been able to offer many young men the opportunity to grow in mind and spirit. The seminary used Irish contributions to provide 112 students from poor families with spiritual, intellectual and physical care.

As vocations dwindle in Ireland and Western Europe, there is an explosion of vocations in Africa, Asia and the Pacific Islands. The number of native priests increases due to the prayers and financial offerings of committed Catholics.

Another example of the difference Irish donations are making is found at Seat of Wisdom Seminary, which has used the financial gift to provide lodgings, academic materials, food and clothing to 577 young men currently answering their vocation.

"Your kind gesture towards our seminary has remained a well-spring of hope and encouragement for us. Thanks to your aid, vocations to the priesthood has continued to blossom despite all odds." Ibeh, a young priest in training at Seat of Wisdom Seminary
