Missionary Union – Nurturing the Missionary Spirit

Missionary Union educates and inspires the religious and lay to confidently share their faith. Founded in 1916 by Fr Paolo Manna, a missionary serving in Myanmar. Fr Manna spent his life promoting the work of the missions. By sharing the spiritual guidance he received through his own work, he hoped to encourage people to come together to bring the Good News to others. Above all, he simply wanted people to pray for the missions.

Nowadays, Missionary Union continues to promote mission and a spirit of unity among all Christians. It is hoped that by witnessing missionary spirit in others, women and men will be inspired to pay it forward by sharing their own faith. Ultimately, becoming missionaries themselves.

In many countries, the overall impact of World Missions Ireland work depends heavily on the Missionary Union. It is through prayer that the missionary spirit – a spirit of love, humanity and faith through one’s witness – is nurtured and grows.
